Apple will ship its new smartโhome hub, dubbed HomeView, in midโNovember, Bloombergโs Mark Gurman said. The device will debut at Appleโs โWelcome Homeโ event on Tuesday, and it is set to become the central voiceโcontrolled screen for Appleโpowered homes. HomeView will work with existing Apple devices such as the HomePod mini and the new Apple TV, which will start shipping on October 30.
Apple has been teasing a hub for months, but the company has kept the name a secret. Gurman explained that the โViewโ in HomeView signals a display that relies on Siri and voice commands rather than a tabletโstyle interface. The hub will come in two forms: a countertop version with a metal speaker base available in space gray, silver, starlight and pink, and a wallโmounted model that only comes in space gray and silver. Unlike other Apple hardware, HomeView will not support the App Store; instead it will run a limited set of Apple apps and rely on thirdโparty accessories that connect through Siri or the Home app.
Apple is partnering with LG to produce a range of HomeViewโcompatible devices, including doorbells, thermostats and outdoor security cameras. In Europe, the company is working with Schneider Electric to offer a similar lineup under the โApple Home Collectionโ brand. These accessories are expected to roll out later in the year, after HomeViewโs launch.
The HomeView launch follows the release of a refreshed HomePod mini powered by an S10 chip and a new Apple TV setโtop box with an A19 chip. All three products will be available in Apple stores by the end of October, with the HomeView arriving a few weeks later. The hubโs arrival marks the next step in Appleโs push to create a fully integrated, voiceโcontrolled smartโhome ecosystem.
