First Eagle Global Fundโ€™s Q2โ€ฏ2026 investor letter highlighted Charter Communications as a key detractor, noting the cable giantโ€™s 52โ€‘week decline of 44.5โ€ฏ% and its market capitalization of $26.7โ€ฏbillion. The letter points out that Charter closed at $152.44 on Augustโ€ฏ31, 2026, and that its oneโ€‘month return was โ€“4.1โ€ฏ%. Despite the slide, the fund still labels Charter a highโ€‘quality business with durable assets and steady cash flows that return money to shareholders.

The quarter was marked by a sharp rally in riskโ€‘seeking markets. The S&Pโ€ฏ500 climbed 15.2โ€ฏ%, while the MSCIโ€ฏEAFE index gained 10.8โ€ฏ%. Growth stocks outperformed value, and the MSCIโ€ฏWorld Growth Index eclipsed its value counterpart. Interestโ€‘rate expectations shifted after Kevin Warshโ€™s appointment as chair of the Federal Open Market Committee, pushing Treasury yields higher and strengthening the dollar. Even with these optimistic market conditions, tighter credit spreads and elevated equity valuations reflected strong demand for financial assets and a postโ€‘World Warโ€ฏII high in household equity wealth.

Charter Communications remains the secondโ€‘largest U.S. broadband provider, offering cable broadcasting, internet, voice and massโ€‘media services. The company faces mounting competitive pressure from mobile operators expanding entryโ€‘level fixedโ€‘wireless service. Nonetheless, First Eagle sees Charterโ€™s difficultโ€‘toโ€‘replicate assets and consistent cashโ€‘flow generation as a hedge against market volatility. The fundโ€™s letter also notes that 63 hedgeโ€‘fund portfolios held Charter at the end of the quarter, a rise from 48 in the prior period, underscoring institutional confidence in the cable operatorโ€™s longโ€‘term value.

While Charter was a detractor in the quarter, the fundโ€™s overall performanceโ€”returning 2.86โ€ฏ% in Q2โ€ฏ2026โ€”remained solid, though it lagged behind the MSCIโ€ฏWorld Index. First Eagleโ€™s outlook remains unchanged, maintaining Charter as a highโ€‘quality holding that can weather competitive headwinds and continue to deliver shareholder value.
