Cowboys sign local WR prospect off injured rookie season with Bucs

The Cowboys look to be gearing up for reinforcements in their wide receivers room as the offseason program rolls on toward training camp.

The team has signed Jaden Smith, as reported Wednesday by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram . (The newest Cowboys prospect is not related to the entertainer with the same name, the son of actor and singer Will Smith.)

Smith, who was an undrafted free agent out of Nevada in 2025, signed with Tampa Bay last spring after a minicamp tryout. He got hurt late that summer, however, and spent the entirety of his rookie season on injured reserve. He was released by the Buccaneers in April.

The 6-foot-6-incher originally from Kennedale, Tex. grabbed 62 catches for 849 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior at Nevada to lead that squad and earn an All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention.

Prior to his only season with the Wolfpack, Smith played at Montana State and Tarleton State (just outside Fort Worth), where he earned second-team All-WAC recognition in 2022.

Smith is the second young wide receiver the Cowboys have added this week; the team earlier signed UDFA Romello Brinson out of SMU.

The Cowboys now have 13 wide receivers listed on their current roster.
