Kyle Samani predicts Solana will surpass Ethereum in market cap
Kyle Samani of Multicoin Capital predicts that Solana (SOL) will surpass Ethereum (ETH) in market capitalization, claiming that Ethereum is underused. This shift could attract more investment to Solaโฆ
Kyle Samani, coโfounder of venture firm Multicoin Capital, told CoinTelegraph on Tuesday that Solana (SOL) will overtake Ethereum (ETH) in market capitalization within this market cycle and that โtoday, no one really uses Ethereum.โ The comment came during a livestream interview from San Francisco, where Samani also warned investors to watch Solanaโs growth metrics closely.
The remark matters because Solana has been positioning itself as a cheaper, faster alternative to Ethereum. Its blockchain can process more than 60,000 transactions per second and charges fractions of a cent in fees, attracting DeFi projects and NFT creators frustrated by Ethereumโs high gas costs. Ethereum, meanwhile, remains the largest smartโcontract platform but is still grappling with scaling upgrades and occasional congestion. As of the end of August, Solanaโs market cap hovered around $12โฏbillion, while Ethereumโs stood near $210โฏbillion, a gap that Samani believes will narrow dramatically as new applications migrate to Solana.
Samaniโs confidence is rooted in recent data. Solanaโs daily transaction count rose 45โฏpercent in the past three months, reaching roughly 1.2โฏmillion, while its developer community grew by 30โฏpercent, according to onโchain analytics firm Nansen. By contrast, Ethereumโs daily transactions slipped to about 1โฏmillion, and its average gas price stayed above $30 despite the Shanghai upgrade. Critics, however, point out that Solana suffered multiple network outages in 2023 and early 2024, raising concerns about reliability. Other analysts, such as Panteraโs Dan Morehead, called Samaniโs claim โoptimistic but speculative,โ noting that Ethereum still hosts the bulk of DeFi liquidity and the majority of smartโcontract developers.
If Solana does close the marketโcap gap, investors could see a shift in capital toward its ecosystem, potentially accelerating the launch of new dApps and attracting more institutional interest. Ethereumโs roadmap, including the upcoming Dencun upgrade, aims to reduce fees and improve scalability, which could blunt Solanaโs momentum. Market watchers will monitor onโchain activity, developer surveys, and upcoming network upgrades to gauge whether Samaniโs prediction signals a genuine flippening or a temporary market swing.
