As of right now, Manchester City remain without a manager. Pep Guardiola’s decade of dominance as City manager has ended and although Guardiola believes that the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders are well placed for the future , they are yet to confirm their next manager. The expectation is that former Chelsea and Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca will be Manchester City’s next manager. However, that announcement has been delayed and when the Italian manager is announced as their next man in the City dugout remains to be seen.
A report from the BBC has provided an update as to why Manchester City have yet to confirm Enzo Maresca as their next manager. As per the BBC report, City and Chelsea are continuing negotiations over a compensation package for Chelsea regarding Maresca’s departure. Furthermore, the BBC reports that Chelsea believes they are due compensation from City due to the fact that Maresca left his post as manager despite being contacted until 2029. Lastly, the BBC report states that it isn’t clear how much compensation Manchester City will pay Chelsea or when the matter will be resolved.
The wait continues for Manchester City to confirm Enzo Maresca as their next manager. Hopefully, it is only a matter of time before the matter of compensation being paid to Chelsea is resolved. That way, City can confirm their next manager and the new era at the club can have its figurehead confirmed.
Enzo Maresca is a highly regarded manager and he does appear to be well suited to replacing Pep Guardiola. Maresca is tactically adept, and his teams play a similar style to that of Guardiola’s teams. That isn’t a surprise given that Maresca has previously served as Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad manager and was Pep Guardiola’s assistant during Manchester City’s famous treble-winning season in 2022-23.
Also, Enzo Maresca is a hard working manager who leaves no stone unturned in his efforts to help his team. Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has provided a glimpse into how Enzo Maresca operates. Speaking on Enzo Maresca and his dedication on the Vardy Party Podcast , Vardy explained: “ Enzo’s agreed to be manager, who’s the spit of Pep. I’d say he’s very capable. Honestly it was like having a clone. ”
“ He’s literally, exactly the same style of play. Like, he never used to sleep. He used to come in, we’d have a meeting in the morning and he’s like, ‘I didn’t go to bed until five o’clock this morning because I was scared I wouldn’t be able to show you this. And we’re like, ‘what time did you get to training’, and he’s like ‘half-six’. ”
The wait continues for Manchester City to officially confirm Enzo Maresca as their next manager. Hopefully, City’s negotiations with Chelsea over compensation can be concluded in a timely manner. Enzo Maresca isn’t expected to be Pep Guardiola, that isn’t fair on him. However, he carries similar traits to those of Guardiola which should hopefully see Maresca hit the ground running when he is finally confirmed as City manager.
