Fermata Xtream, the Android Auto app known for its musicโ€‘andโ€‘video playback, has released version 1.6.0. The update lets users send videos from their phones straight to the carโ€™s screen, adds nine new visualisations, and improves the overall YouTube experience. The new features are available in both the free and paid versions of the app.

The developerโ€™s recent months have been a rollercoaster. After announcing a shutdown, he rewrote the codebase and revived Xtream Player. A few weeks later he added dashboard games. The latest update, announced on Reddit with screenshots, continues that pattern of surprise improvements. It shows the developerโ€™s commitment to keeping the app fresh for a community that has been waiting for new functionality.

Key details of the release include an experimental videoโ€‘sending feature that may still have bugs, a hiddenโ€‘controls mode for a cleaner YouTube view, and a quality picker that matches YouTubeโ€™s own options. Playback now resumes automatically after a call, and captions are off by default. Premium users gain extra perks: the app remembers the last visualisation used and supports official MilkDrop and libprojectM visualisers for even more options. The free version still gets nine visualisations, the experimental video feature, and all the new playback tweaks.

Users can download the new build from GitHub or the Fermata Xtream website. The update shows that Android Auto can move beyond simple audio to richer media experiences. If the experimental video feature proves stable, it could become a common way to watch short clips while driving. The release also signals that the developer is listening to feedback and iterating quickly, which may keep Xtream Player competitive in a crowded market of car entertainment apps.
