A police report released Thursday says a drug deal in northern Mississippi turned into a planned ambush that left a mother, her 2โ€‘yearโ€‘old son and the motherโ€™s sister dead. The victims were reportedly targeted by a group that included the victimโ€™s boyfriend, his friends and a woman who helped them rob the boyfriendโ€™s best friend before the killings. The group allegedly shouted, โ€œno one would be left alive,โ€ as they carried out the attacks. The incident occurred on a rural road near Oxford on Tuesday night.

The case follows a series of violent incidents involving the same group of men, who have been linked to drug trafficking and prior assaults in the region. Investigators say the motive was a mix of personal vendetta and financial gain. The boyfriendโ€™s best friend had recently been involved in a dispute over drug money, and the ambush was reportedly staged to eliminate anyone who could testify against the conspirators. The womanโ€™s involvement was confirmed after police found her phone records showing she was present at the scene and had helped coordinate the robbery.

Police officials said the victims were identified as 35โ€‘yearโ€‘old Melissa Carter, her 2โ€‘yearโ€‘old son, and Melissaโ€™s sister, 33โ€‘yearโ€‘old Tara Williams. The men were arrested on charges that include murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit murder. The woman, 28, faces charges of felony murder and accessory to murder. A preliminary hearing is set for next month, and prosecutors are seeking to bring the case to trial. Law enforcement agencies in Mississippi have increased patrols in the area, citing concerns about rising gang violence.

The case highlights the growing problem of drugโ€‘related violence in rural Mississippi, where lawโ€‘enforcement resources are stretched thin. Community leaders are calling for more support for victimsโ€™ families and for stronger antiโ€‘drug initiatives. The stateโ€™s Attorney General announced a new task force to investigate similar incidents and to improve coordination between county and state police. The victimsโ€™ families are hoping for swift justice and for the perpetrators to be held accountable for the brutal killings.
