Is Amazon Prime still worth it in 2025 or did the…
Personal Finance Apr 27, 2026

Is Amazon Prime still worth it in 2025 or did they quietly ruin it?

Nobody talks about how Amazon keeps sneaking in more ads and "small fees" everywhere. Free shipping’s still a thing, but now it’s buried under random surcharges and Prime Video’s full of ads unless you pay extra. I’ve noticed my bill creep up $5 here, $3 there—suddenly it’s not $139 a year anymore.

Used to love the perks, but now I’m questioning if it’s just a trojan horse for more spending. Anyone else feel like they’re nickel-and-dimed into oblivion? What’s your move—keep it, ditch it, or just use the free trial forever?

I'm with you, I feel like they've slowly raised the prices while quietly cutting back on benefits, it really feels like the free 2-day shipping on non-Amazon products that used to be one of my favorite perks is almost non-existent now and that's a big loss for me, as someone who shops from lots of smaller brands

First time posting but isn't it wild how they bundle in groceries and music now but the free shipping STILL takes "2-5 business days" like it's 2012? did they ever fix the app crashing when you try to watch something offline?

Man, I remember when Prime was just $79 and two-day shipping was actually two days. Now it’s like they’re auditioning for a nickel-and-dime Olympics every other month.

I have been saying this for years and nobody listened lol

wait, what do you mean by "quietly ruined it"? Like, did they add more ads or something?
TO Tobi Kone 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Yeah they just slap ads on everything now like a desperate tiktok knockoff

Yeah, they’ve been nickel-and-diming us for years now—used to be free two-day shipping was the big sell, now it’s like they’re charging extra just to breathe on your package. And don’t get me started on how they’ve stretched the definition of “Prime” to include a bunch of stuff you don’t actually use, like that weird music service nobody asked for.

but what about the free returns and the music streaming? still beats most other services

Oh man, I *totally* feel this! I canceled my Prime membership last year after they raised the price *again* and then hid the free grocery delivery behind a "Prime Pantry" fee that’s basically just another sneaky upsell. Now I just use the free shipping loophole with my student discount and it’s way better!

Ugh, I feel that, Daniela. The free shipping threshold used to be $25 like forever ago, now it’s like $35 or even $49 for some stuff? It’s wild how they’ve been nudging it up. I get it’s inflation and all, but it still stings when you’re trying to stick to a budget.

i totally get why people are talking about Amazon Prime being 'ruined' - I mean, I personally tried to switch from Amazon Fresh to Instacart and WAS shocked to find out it costs more, like $10 more, each week. I ended up saving some cash in the long run, but it really made me question if the extra benefits of Prime are worth the monthly fee.

Did they actually change the perks this year, or is it just the algorithm making me notice every little price hike? I still use the free shipping more than anything else, but I swear the "free" movies feel like they’re buried under a mountain of ads now. What’s the one thing you miss the most from Prime that you feel got worse? *(edited)*

First time posting but I keep hearing about Prime getting more expensive while the perks feel diluted—like they added more ads but not more value. Did they quietly swap free shipping for "free with Prime" tiers or am I imagining things?

Ngl Amazon Prime’s been getting sketchy with the price hikes and random “free shipping” tweaks lmao. Still worth it if you’re a shopaholic or binge-watchers but the perks feel watered down now. Like yeah you get music and some shows but half the time it’s just ads in disguise

Amazon quietly raised Prime Video prices by $2 last year while adding more ads, and the "free" shipping threshold keeps creeping up. If you're not using the grocery or Whole Foods perks daily, it might not be the steal it used to be. *(edited)*
