Who Uses This Tool?
Common real-world use cases for IP lookup and geolocation.
VPN Verification
Confirm your VPN is active and that your real IP is masked before browsing sensitive sites.
Geo-restriction Checks
Verify what country a streaming service or website thinks you're in — useful for testing region-locked content.
Network Troubleshooting
Identify your ISP, AS number, and reverse DNS — essential info for diagnosing connectivity issues.
Developer Testing
Test how your app's geo-targeting or IP-based logic behaves from different networks or VPN exit nodes.
IT & Sysadmin
Quickly check the public IP of a remote machine, office, or cloud server without SSH access.
Privacy Auditing
See your exposure level and whether your connection is flagged as a VPN, proxy, or data-centre IP.
How It Works
Three steps happen the moment you open this page — all under a second.
01
Request hits our server
When your browser connects, your public IP is captured server-side by Django — no client-side guessing required.
02
IP database lookup
Our proxy queries ip-api.com's geolocation database — 40+ fields including ASN, ISP, timezone, coordinates, and privacy flags.
03
Results rendered live
Location, network, coordinates, and map load instantly. Browser stats are gathered by the Navigator API — 100% local, zero upload.
04
Privacy scored
A privacy score (0–100) is calculated from VPN, proxy, hosting, and Tor flags — giving you an at-a-glance anonymity rating.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Where Am I?" show?
It reveals your public IP address, approximate geographic location (city, region, country), internet service provider, autonomous system number, timezone, privacy score, connection speed, and browser/device details — all in real time without any signup.
Is my exact address visible?
No. IP geolocation is city-level at best — your street address is never exposed. The coordinates shown are the approximate centre of your city or ISP exchange, not your home. Accuracy is typically within 25–50 km for residential connections.
Why does my location look wrong?
IP geolocation databases are imperfect. If you use a VPN, corporate proxy, or satellite ISP your traffic exits from a different city or country — so the reported location reflects the exit node, not where you actually are. Use the GPS button for your true physical location.
Do you store my IP or location?
We log only anonymous metadata (country code, ISP, timezone) for analytics. No personal data or raw IP is permanently stored. Geolocation lookups are proxied through our Django backend to ip-api.com — we never share your IP with third parties beyond that lookup.
What is an AS number?
An Autonomous System (AS) is a large network managed by a single organisation — usually your ISP or a cloud provider. Each AS has a unique number (ASN). Knowing your ASN helps network engineers route traffic and identify your ISP more precisely than just the ISP name.
What do the Privacy Flags mean?
VPN — your IP belongs to a known VPN provider range. Proxy — traffic is routed through a known proxy service. Tor — you are using the Tor anonymity network. Hosting/DC — your IP is registered to a data centre rather than a residential ISP. These are detected heuristically and may occasionally be inaccurate.
What is the Privacy Score?
The score (0–100) rates how identifiable your connection looks to websites. 100 = typical residential connection, fully identified. VPN detection drops it by 35 points; hosting/DC by 20; Tor by 50. A lower score means you appear more anonymous. This is our own heuristic — not a legal or security guarantee.
How does the Ping / Latency test work?
We send 8 tiny timed fetch requests to our own server and measure round-trip time (RTT) for each. The results show minimum, maximum, average latency, and jitter — a rough indicator of connection stability. This is not a full network speed test but gives a useful approximation of your connection responsiveness.
Is this tool mobile-friendly?
Yes — the page is fully responsive and works on all screen sizes. On mobile, the Connection API may report your carrier network type (4G/5G) and we also detect whether your IP is registered as a mobile carrier network.
