How are prayer times calculated?
Prayer times are calculated using the Aladhan.com free API which applies standard astronomical formulas (solar angle method) for Fajr and Isha, combined with solar noon for Dhuhr, sunset for Maghrib, and shadow length for Asr. You can choose from 10 different calculation methods used around the world.
Why does Fajr have a special Adhan?
The Fajr Adhan includes the phrase "As-Salatu Khayrun Min An-Nawm" (Prayer is better than sleep), repeated twice. This is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reported in Sahih al-Bukhari. Our Fajr audio option includes this phrase.
How do browser notifications work?
Click "Enable Browser Notifications" and allow permissions. The page checks prayer times every minute and sends a desktop alert when a prayer time arrives — even if the browser is minimized. The tab must remain open.
Is the audio hosted or streamed?
Adhan audio files are hosted on our own server in /static/audio/adhan/ — they load fast and work offline once cached. No YouTube or external streaming required.
