How to use the Quran reader
Everything here is free. This page walks through the parts people ask about most: reading, the Mushaf page, listening, text-to-speech, and saving what you want to come back to.
Start in a minute
- Open a surah. Pick one from the list, or search by name or number. On a phone, the list is behind the back arrow at the top left.
- Choose how you want to read. The row of buttons under the title switches between Arabic only, side by side, translation below, the Mushaf page, and the Juz view.
- Press Listen. The reciter starts, the verse being recited lights up, and the player appears at the bottom.
The Mushaf page
On a phone
You get one page at a time, edge to edge. Swipe to turn it. Tap an empty part of the page to hide or show the bottom controls.
On a computer
Two pages sit side by side like an open book, and turning a page flips it. Use the arrow keys if you like.
Zoom and fonts
Pinch to zoom on a phone. The sliders button opens settings for font, line numbers, ruled lines, and the Sajdah, Manzil, Juz and Hizb markers.
Hold a verse
Press and hold any verse to open its menu: play, tafsir, ask AI, save, copy and share.
Listening and reciters
Pick a reciter
Open the settings (gear icon) or the reciter name in the player. The group at the top highlights every word as it is recited. The others highlight the verse and follow the words as closely as they can.
Speed and repeat
Slow a verse down to 0.5x to learn it, or set it to repeat 3, 5 or 10 times from the three-dot menu in the player. Repeat settings also let you loop a range of verses.
No waiting between verses
While one verse plays, the next several are already downloading, so the recitation flows. On a fast connection it gets further ahead.
Hide the player
The little tab above the player tucks it away. Tap the round button that appears to bring it back.
Text-to-speech: hear the translation
- Open the settings with the gear icon at the top right.
- Turn on "Translation after verse". After each verse in Arabic, the English translation is read aloud, then the next verse begins.
- Choose a voice. Pick Female or Male under Voice. The reading follows the meaning of the verse: it slows and softens for mercy and grief, and lifts for good news and warnings.
Save, study and ask
Bookmarks
Tap the bookmark next to a verse, or use Save in the Mushaf controls. Open your list from the bookmark icon in the top bar. Sign in to keep them across devices.
Tafsir and Hadith
Under each verse you will find Tafsir, Hadith, Memorize and Reflect. They open in a panel so you do not lose your place.
Ask AI
Ask a question about a verse in plain words, in your own language. The answer is a study aid, not a fatwa, so check anything important with a scholar.
Memorize
Pick a verse, slow the speed, repeat it, and read along with the highlighted words. Short and often works better than long and rare.
If something does not play
Check your connection first, then try another reciter. If a verse is slow to start you will see a small spinner on the play button, and the reader retries on its own. A hard refresh of the page fixes most odd states.
Where the text, audio and translations come from is listed on the sources and credits page.
